Há algum tempo que Marta e Jaime, um jovem casal sem filhos, trocaram a azáfama urbana pelo sossego do campo. É no seio dessa aparente quietude que, certo dia, um vizinho, sob o motivo de ter de se deslocar a Lisboa, pede para olharem pela sua filha Beatriz temporariamente. Entre o chilrear dos pássaros e o manso correr do riacho, a tranquilidade a que se foram acostumando é subitamente quebrada pela aparição nocturna de um estranho animal. Sem saber se a presença da criança estará de alguma maneira relacionada com uma série de bizarras ocorrências, o casal terá de questionar passado, presente e futuro, ao aventurar-se por um perigoso jogo de sombras que se revela tão real quanto aterrador. Após várias incursões no formato da curta-metragem, o cineasta português Jorge Cramez (“O Capacete Dourado”) estreia-se finalmente na longa de terror, voltando ao dilema amoroso desta vez sob o signo do folk horror, num filme que promete uma imersão inquietante na tenebrosa metamorfose da vida bucólica portuguesa.

For quite some time, Marta and Jaime, a young childless couple, have traded the bustle of the city for the calm of the countryside. In the midst of this apparent stillness, a neighbor unexpectedly asks them to look after his daughter Beatriz for a short while, as he needs to travel to Lisbon. Surrounded by birdsong and the gentle flow of the creek, the tranquility they had grown accustomed to is suddenly shattered by the nocturnal appearance of a strange animal. Unsure whether the child’s presence is somehow connected to a series of bizarre occurrences, the couple must confront their past, present, and future as they venture into a dangerous game of shadows that proves to be as real as it is terrifying. After several forays into short films, Portuguese filmmaker Jorge Cramez (“The Golden Helmet”) finally makes his debut in feature-length horror, revisiting the theme of love this time under the sign of folk horror, in a film that promises an unsettling immersion into the dark metamorphosis of bucolic Portuguese life.
